How to Define Contact Person Functions in SAP FSCM
In SAP Financial Supply Chain Management, contact person functions describe the role performed by a contact person in a business partner relationship. This tutorial explains how to define a new function key and description through the SAP Reference IMG.
SAP FSCM Define Functions Transaction and IMG Path
- Transaction code: SPRO
- SAP IMG Path: SPRO > Financial Supply Chain Management > Treasury and Risk Management > Basic Functions > SAP Business Partner for Financial Services > General Settings > Business Partner Relationships > Contact Person > Define Functions.
Before creating an entry, determine the function key and description required by your organization. The function key should be unique within this configuration activity.
Open the SAP Reference IMG in Transaction SPRO
Step 1: From the SAP Easy Access screen, enter transaction code SPRO in the command field and press Enter.

Step 2: Select SAP Reference IMG to open the Implementation Guide.

Create a New Contact Person Function in SAP FSCM
Step 4: On the Change View: Positions of Contact Person: Overview screen, choose New Entries to create a function.

Step 5: On the New Entries screen, complete the function fields as required.
- Fct: Enter a unique key for the contact person function. Use the naming convention defined for your SAP system.
- Description: Enter a clear description that identifies the contact person’s role.

Save the Defined Function and Transport the Configuration
Step 6: Review the function key and description, and then choose the Save icon. If SAP requests a customizing request, assign the change to an appropriate transport request according to your organization’s transport procedure.
The new function is now available for use where contact person functions are assigned in the relevant business partner relationship configuration or master data process.
Checks Before Using the New SAP Contact Person Function
- Confirm that the function key is unique and follows the project’s naming standard.
- Use a description that clearly distinguishes the function from existing contact person roles.
- Verify that the entry was saved in the correct client.
- Record the customizing transport request used for the change.
- Test the function in the intended business partner relationship process before moving it to a production system.
SAP FSCM Define Functions: Common Questions
What does the Fct field represent in SAP?
The Fct field contains the key used to identify a contact person function. The accompanying description explains the role represented by that key.
Why is the New Entries button unavailable?
The view may be open in display mode, or the user may not have the required authorization to maintain customizing entries. Switch to change mode and verify the assigned authorization roles.
Does defining a function automatically assign it to a contact person?
No. This activity creates the function key and description. The function must still be selected or assigned in the relevant business partner relationship process.
Is a transport request required for this configuration?
In a standard development or customizing client, SAP commonly prompts for a customizing transport request when the entry is saved. The exact behavior depends on the client settings and transport configuration.
