How to Determine Route Automatically into Sales Order in SAP?

In SAP’s Sales and Distribution (SD) module, automatic route determination is essential for optimizing logistics by selecting the most efficient path for delivering goods to customers. This process is influenced by several key factors and requires specific configuration steps to function seamlessly. In the given below example Sales Order, Route is not determined automatically, so to get the route we need to configure some Route Determination in SAP.

Route is not determined into Sales Order, due to which we have not Configured Route determination like

1. Assign Transportation Zones to Shipping Points.
2. Adding Transportation Zone to the Ship to Party.
3. Maintaining Route Determination.

Key Factors Influencing Route Determination:

1. Shipping Conditions: Defined in the customer master record, these conditions specify the agreed-upon delivery terms with the customer, such as standard or express delivery.
2. Transportation Group: Assigned in the material master record, the transportation group indicates the method or equipment required for transporting the goods, like manual loading or crane usage.
3. Departure Zone: Associated with the shipping point, this represents the geographical area from which the goods are dispatched.
4. Destination Zone: Linked to the ship-to party, this denotes the geographical area where the goods are to be delivered.

Configuration Steps for Automatic Route Determination:

1. Define Transportation Zones:
   • Path: SPRO > Sales and Distribution > Basic Functions > Routes > Route Determination > Define Transportation Zones
   • Action: Create transportation zones to represent different geographical areas for both shipping points and customers.
2. Assign Transportation Zones to Shipping Points:
   • Path: SPRO > Sales and Distribution > Basic Functions > Routes > Route Determination > Maintain Country and Transportation Zone for Shipping Point

Assign the appropriate departure zone to each shipping point, specifying the country and transportation zone.

3. Maintain Shipping Conditions:
   • Path: SPRO > Sales and Distribution > Master Data > Business Partners > Customers > Billing Documents > Define Shipping Conditions
   • Action: Define shipping conditions that reflect the customer’s delivery preferences, such as standard or express delivery.
4. Set Transportation Groups:
   • Path: SPRO > Sales and Distribution > Basic Functions > Routes > Define Transportation Groups
   • Action: Create transportation groups that correspond to the material’s transportation requirements, like manual loading or crane usage.
5. Maintain Route Determination:
   • Path: SPRO > Sales and Distribution > Basic Functions > Routes > Route Determination > Maintain Route Determination

Configure the system to determine the route based on the combination of shipping conditions, transportation group, departure zone, and destination zone.

By Configuring all the above Route Determination, we have successfully determined Route into Sales Order.
