Assign Distribution Channel to Sales Organization in SAP SD

In this SAP SD tutorial, you will learn how to assign distribution channel to sales organization in SAP step by step. This assignment is part of the Sales and Distribution enterprise structure and is required before a sales organization can use a particular distribution channel in sales processing.

In the previous SAP SD training, we learned how to assign a sales organization to a company code in SAP. After the sales organization and distribution channel are created, the link between distribution channel and sales organization is maintained through this assignment activity.

What the Sales Organization and Distribution Channel Assignment Controls

A sales organization represents the selling unit responsible for sales transactions. A distribution channel represents the way products or services reach customers, such as direct sales, wholesale, retail, online sales, or partner sales depending on the business design. In SAP SD, both values are used together in the sales area structure along with division.

When you assign distribution channel to sales organization, you allow that sales organization to use the selected channel in sales area creation, customer master sales area data, pricing, sales documents, delivery processing, and related SD configuration. If the assignment is missing, the system may not allow you to build a valid sales area using that combination.
